Algerian illegal immigrant killed in Britain: Fethi rode the “boat of death” and will return in the “death plane”

From Annaba, east of Algeria, to Britain via Italy, France and Belgium, is the journey of a young Algerian Fethi Bouchareb, which ended in dramatic circumstances that remain unclear until today, as his dead body is still captured by Scotland Yard police, while his parents’ hearts are burning to know the truth about his assassination.

  • Echorouk went to the victim’s house in the district of Bidari in Elboni, Annaba, east of Algeria, where the young Fethi Bouchareb lived, and where he began the journey of sufferance which put and end to his life… he planned to escape from hell of unemployment towards the promised paradise behind the other side of the Mediterranean.
  • the journey began summer 2003, exactly on July, 27 2003, Fethi rode the boat of death, however death gave him another opportunity to live and he succeeded in reaching the other side safely. Fethi and his friends arrived at Sardinia island, and then entered Italy, where he stayed eight months on the run and hiding from the Italian authorities before he could enter the French territory illegally. Fethi managed to infiltrate into the Belgian soil to settle for a period in the capital Brussels and then continued his illegal trip towards the British territories hoping to find a way to arrange his legal documents. He lived in an apartment on the outskirts of London accompanied by four youngsters from Annaba, east of Algeria, who went through the same experience of continued travel under the cover of darkness to escape from the eyes of policemen. This experience created a strong friendship between the young Algerians who were in constant contact with their parents in Annaba.
  • “Fethi called me on March, 24, 2009 in order to receive some things for the family of his friend from Britain. After one week I tried to contact him in order to confirm arrival of those things, however; he did not pick up the phone and I called him in the next day but no news, as well as on the third day. I also tried to call one of his friends who share his apartment but the same result occurred. My family thought that Scotland Yard policemen arrested him”, the victim’s brother said.
  • Last Sunday night, while Fethi’s brother was preparing to leave his home, a youngster surprised him with ominous news and asserted that he is a messenger from Fethi’s friends who said he died two weeks ago, as he was found dead in one of the UK gardens after being stabbed three times by a knife that put a tragic end to his illegal trip.
  • Now, his family from Annaba and Skikda, east of Algeria, call on Algerian embassy to intervene in order to expedite the receipt of Fethi’s body for burial in hometown…while his friend Toufik who lives in London, married seven days before the assassination of his companion Fethi said while shedding tears; “My companion Fethi attended the wedding ceremony, danced and shed tears because of joy and nostalgia. He told me my dream was to marry and succeed in life thus making my parents happy, that’s why all those who attended the wedding sympathized with Fethi. He had one hope to have a descent life. He had never been involved in crime despite the opportunities to enter the world of criminality and the lure of welfare among gang members spread widely throughout Britain. He was a fan of Algerian team and attended match between Liverpool and Portsmouth where Yebda’s team-mates won 2-0; he was very happy with Belhadj’s goal and carried the Algerian flag with thirty other Algerians living in UK. Unfortunately, Fethi will not attend the match between Britain and Algerian during the world Cup South Africa because he left us forever…forever”.
